July was a great month for us at Skin Associates of South Florida. The most exciting part was when we hosted two back-to-back weekends of Cellfina trainings.

If you haven’t heard of Cellfina yet, it is the only FDA-approved treatment of cellulite with long-term results (currently approved for up to two years). It’s performed in our office, under local anesthesia and only takes one session. Cellfina was developed by Ulthera, Inc. which is under the umbrella of Merz, an international healthcare company headquartered in Frankfurt, Germany. Cellfina was launched in the United States and recently has been approved for launch in Europe.

Our very own Dr. Jeremy Green has been working with Cellfina since 2010, as a part of their clinical trials to get it FDA-approved. According to a representative of Merz, Dr. Green’s lengthy experience with Cellfina, and his experience with training others for the American launch made him the perfect candidate to help with the European launch of Cellfina.

The trainings spanned three days: two full days of classroom training and a half day to observe and learn from Dr. Green. The classroom days consisted of lecture, practice with properly marking patients for the procedure and then hands-on work with the system. On the third day, participants were able to observe Dr. Green perform the procedure on two patient volunteers. Participants were able to ask questions and gain perspective in a clinical setting with Dr. Green who has been actively using Cellfina for years.

European Cellfina LaunchDuring the course of both weekends we trained 13 participants representing nine different countries/regions: Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, Canada, England and Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg). The majority of participants were Field Clinical Specialists (FCS) for Merz. Most Field Clinical Specialists are medical doctors and their job is to train plastic surgeons and dermatologists on how to use Cellfina for the European launch. It’s definitely exciting to know that our time spent with them will turn into hundreds, maybe even thousands, of doctors being trained on Cellfina!

It was a pleasure to be able to host yet another training for Cellfina. We greatly enjoy being at the forefront of cosmetic dermatology and we look forward to spreading our knowledge and experience in future opportunities.
