Better Skin, Made Easier

Many of the conditions that contribute to an aged appearance can be successfully treated with lasers. Fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, enlarged pores, scars, and uneven coloring or texture can all detract from the skin’s healthy, youthful appearance.

At our dermatology office in Coral Gables, we utilize fractional lasers that run the complete spectrum from gentle with little downtime to aggressive with recovery time needed. One of the most popular treatments we offer is the Solta Clean+Brilliant and Permea, along with the Cynosure Emerge. This little downtime fractional resurfacing lasers gently stimulate new collagen leaving the skin glowing and refreshed after treatment. These lasers are a favorite for our patients to do every month or two as part of a skin maintenance program. Medium strength fractional lasers we use including the Fraxel DUAL (1550 nm/1927 nm) and Erbium:Glass Cynsoure Icon 1540 nm XD/XF offer more dramatic results with a series of treatments.

These lasers are great for wrinkles, acne/surgical scars and stretch marks (striae). At Skin Associates of South Florida we also use the stronger Cynsoure Icon Erbium:YAG and Lumenis Ultrapulse Active/Deep FX Carbon Dioxide (CO2) lasers for treatments that produce remarkable results with a single treatment. The revolutionary fractional technology produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as microthermal treatment zones. With this approach, the integrity of the top layer of the skin is maintained, protecting the tissue and providing a faster healing time. The fractional laser can be used to rejuvenate areas including the neck, chest and hands.

Your Treatment

botox cosmeticsFractional laser resurfacing treatments can produce dramatic results, but they are only as good as the practitioner performing them. At our Miami dermatology office, our team of board-certified dermatologists personally perform all laser treatments for optimal results.

First, the skin is numbed with a topical anesthetic cream. The skin is simultaneously cooled while the laser energy is delivered deep into the skin. Treatments may take only a few minutes or up to an hour depending on sites treated and laser systems used.

Fractional laser treatments work at both the epidermal (superficial) and dermal (deep) level. Because fractionated lasers penetrate deep into the skin, they are able to stimulate collagen remodeling and new collagen formation deep in the dermis. This helps improve wrinkles, scarring, and loose skin. At the surface level, damaged and discolored skin cells are vaporized and expelled for improved coloration and smoother skin. Since only a fraction of the skin is treated and surrounding tissue is left healthy and unharmed, healing time is shortened.

The skin may appear pinkish and feel mildly sunburned after treatment, but this only lasts for a few hours for our gentler treatments or a few days with our stronger approaches. When undergoing stronger treatments dryness and flaking may develop over the subsequent few days, but patients find this very tolerable.

Results emerge progressively over the course of several months. While some patients see dramatic results with one treatment, most patients achieve optimal benefits with a series of treatments. Typically, patients see full results after about 3 or 4 months, and with proper skin care, the benefits may last many years.
