The Next Wave in Laser Hair Removal

We are pleased to offer the Palomar Vectus™ laser – the latest and greatest in laser hair removal technology – at our Miami office. The Vectus brings hair removal to another level of speed, comfort, and safety. It is a diode laser that works by targeting the pigment in each hair shaft. The laser light is then converted to heat, which spreads to knock out the stem cells that generate the hair.

The Palomar Vectus laser is special for a number of reasons. One, it has the largest spot size, or treatment area, in its class. That means large areas such as the back, chest, legs, or arms can be treated more quickly than ever. Another unique feature of the Vectus is the Skintel Melanin Reader. It’s a device that measures the amount of melanin, or pigment, in your skin. This is important because people with darker skin types have more melanin, and the laser light doesn’t know the difference between pigment in the skin and pigment in the hair we want to remove. Based on the Skintel’s pigment measurement, we can choose appropriate and safe laser settings for treatment of all skin types.

Dr. Kaufman and I had the privilege of working closely with Palomar to research the Skintel and help develop the settings that are used in Palomar devices around the world. Our commitment to research is something that I am most proud of at our Miami dermatology practice. This commitment, and the fact that we physicians personally perform all laser hair removal treatments, gives our patients added confidence that we can deliver exceptional results safely.

Some considerations for laser hair removal include ensuring that you don’t have an active tan, that you haven’t recently plucked or waxed, and understanding that you may require a series of sessions to achieve the permanent hair reduction you desire.
